Marcelo Garcia (also known as Marcelinho) was born in the Brazilian city of Minas Gerais on September 17, 1983.

As you may not know, Minas Gerais has long been known for its mineral riches and mining activities, accounting for more than half of Brazil’s total mineral production.

Furthermore, Minas Gerais has produced many grappling superstars, such as Lucas Lepri, Carlos Terrinha, Romulo Barral, and many others.

Marcelo Garcia Was Addicted to Karate as a Child

Karate martial arts became popular in the 1980s due to the popularity of films such as The Karate Kid and the older Enter the Dragon.

As a result, the young Marcelo was convinced that Karate was the best martial art for anyone to learn because of its effective striking techniques. So, Marcelo began Karate training at a younger age.

Marcelo’s martial arts addiction eventually leads him to discover grappling. Despite his reservations about the effectiveness of Judo, Marcelo began training with Fabiano de Souza. However, he fell in love with the explosiveness and aggression of this Olympic sport.
