2. From Karate to Jiu-Jitsu
Marcelo became interested in karate after seeing movies like “The Karate Kid” and “Enter the Dragon.” This was common for kids in the 1980s. He did a lot of training because he thought that hitting was the best way to protect himself.
Marcelo became interested in judo, though, and learned it from Fabiano de Souza. Even though Marcelo was skeptical at first, he quickly fell in love with the sport’s powerful moves.
His switch to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu happened by chance; his judo teacher was also a BJJ practitioner. Marcelo found his true calling in wrestling after taking a class with the famous Rickson Gracie.
