Jiu Jitsu Armbar: Everything You Need to Know!

Arm Bar Jiu-Jitsu Setup: How Do I Make this Submission?

In Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the armbar technique is used in both gi and no-gi, which is a significant advantage.

A rigid arm lock is achievable a few steps after landing in a suitable position, such as the closed guard, mount, etc.

  1. Enter a suitable position, then control your opponent’s arm that you wish to attack. Also, don’t forget to control the opponent’s upper body (chest and head).
  2. Drive the controlled arm between your knees and close the distance.
  3. Maintain control of the opponent’s arm, and ensure his elbow lies across your hips.
  4. Use your full-body leverage by pulling your hips and the opponent’s wrist down. These movements extend the opponent’s elbow and force him to tap out.
