7. Master of Choke Submissions
Marcelo Garcia is famous for how hard he attacks and how good he is at chokes. Some of the ways he signs his work are:
- Guillotine Choke: Used to submit Kron Gracie, Victor Estima, and many others in ADCC competitions.
- Rear-Naked Choke (RNC): Dominated ADCC 2003, finishing 80% of his opponents with this submission.
- North-South Choke: A favorite move he used to submit top competitors like Chico Mendes and Bruno Alves.
8. The Marcelo Garcia Academy
Garcia started his first school in Pembroke Pines, Florida, in 2008. After a year, he moved to Manhattan, New York, and opened the Marcelo Garcia Jiu-Jitsu Academy.
This school quickly became known as one of the best BJJ schools in the world, and students of all kinds started coming.
