Craig Jones Gordon Ryan Breakup That Shook the BJJ World!

Craig Jones and Gordon Ryan Drama

Craig Jones and Gordon Ryan trained together, won jointly, and laughed together. Now? They’re enemies.

I recall when DDS (founded in 2011) ruled the world of grappling. John Danaher trained Gordon Ryan, Eddie Cummings, Craig Jones, Garry Tonon, Nicky Ryan, Nicky Rod, and several other grapplers.

The team was focused on one goal: to defeat everyone who dared to compete in no-gi contests. These powerful grapplers used and nailed never-before-seen and inventive assault tactics, such as leg-lock systems, to defeat each opponent.

And, yeah, they seemed unbeatable. However, after a few years, the DDS team split, and all of their success vanished as if it never happened.

Craig Jones and Gordon Ryan developed a tense relationship as a result of their breakup. Here is what occurred!

Back When DDS Was King

I still remember the glory days of the Danaher Death Squad. The team possessed a formidable roster.

  • Gordon Ryan
  • Eddie Cummings
  • Craig Jones
  • Garry Tonon
  • Nicky Ryan
  • Nick Rodriguez

They weren’t just training partners. They were dominating the no-gi scene, submitting the world’s best, and changing the game with heel hooks, back takes, and leg lock systems that nobody could stop.

They looked untouchable. Then it all came crashing down.

The Puerto Rico Move: Paradise or Pressure Cooker?

In 2020, the squad moved to Puerto Rico. On paper, it sounded perfect. Train all day, no distractions, beautiful weather, a private gym for killers only.

But behind the highlight reels and amusing Instagram clips, the energy started shifting.

According to John Danaher, tension began building—especially between Gordon Ryan and Nicky Ryan. And when the younger Ryan felt the pressure, the rest of the team started feeling it too.

Different goals. Different personalities. There were numerous high-achieving individuals occupying a small area.

My Take

Was it messy? Yep.
Was it necessary? Probably.

The old DDS couldn’t last forever. But from its ashes came two new dynasties. Now, we can observe the unfolding drama and determine who emerges victorious.

What do you think? Was it real hate—or smart marketing?
